An Introduction to Ayurveda
Ayurveda is composed of a collection of writings concerning an ancient Indian medical philosophy and literally translates as the “art of living wisely”. It acts on the principle that we are all unique and tries to adjust our diet and lifestyle depending on our individual physique. Ayurveda focuses on dietary advice, herbal remedies and yoga.
The wisdom of Ayurveda encourages us to take responsibility for our own health according to the different stages in our lives, the seasons and the environment in which we live, so that we can continue to live a balanced existence in harmony and salubriousness.
An early description states: “It is called Ayurveda because it tells us which substances, qualities and actions are life enhancing and which are not.”
